I learned over time that I did well or poorly in direct relationship with how good or bad I felt about myself.
Getting treatment not only gave me the ability to get quit but many more tools and a broader understanding of the disease. There is no shame in getting help.
Directing time and energy toward something more meaningful is great. Not hard to find something more meaningful but sometimes very hard, especially in the beginning to actually do it.
Some States subsidize treatment making it cost little or nothing.
What I meant to get across is that before treatment in my many attempts to do "controlled" gambling - I could keep within a limit until something didn't go the way I'd like in my life. And I would be back at it more intensely than ever. The ultimate lesson was that I can not control it.
