I am with you on starting over on January 1st - again, this time it is for me. Not every post on here is going to motivate you but remember that there are many of us fighting this battle along with you and cheering you on. Just for today I will not gamble! Stay strong my friend.

I have been a member for many years too, off and on. Sorry you didn't find support. Funny, different perspectives, I don't see it as negative lately, but have had times where I needed extra support, so started GA, and the national phone meeting on Wednesday.. I am hoping for a GF 2016, sometimes it seems so doable and other times so daunting! I have to remember one day at a time. There are so many casinos in this town, I am working on rerouting my thoughts when I get tempted, it is hard because I spent a lot of time talking myself into gambling and justifying it. Keep fighting we are worth it!

I am sorry that you didn't feel supported, it only takes one person writing something critical or thoughtless to make it feel that way. I'm glad you are giving DS another chance. I been coming here since I quit gambling in November of 2014 and found the feedback and journaling and other members to be kind and supportive.
I also went to GA and to treatment for compulsive gambling and made many lifestyle and belief system changes that have made my live worth living again.
There is a better life without gambling! I did not believe it was possible to begin with, I did not think I could quit, and I was not sure I was worth it. But now that I have gained some over a year of abstinence, I never want to gamble again. I strive to remind myself of my worst day gambling frequently and it is a great deterrent.

I too have been coming here for a couple of years. I have gone to meetings and I have been in therapy. I remember feeling the same way, there wasn't much support, and a lot of negative feedback, but someone told me to sit down, close my mouth and listen, which offended me by the way, but I did. And once I did, I started hearing people share, my story, I started reading posts, that may be negative, but also, somehow impacted me and my addiction. So, I read, or I respond, or I share, and slowly I have stayed in recovery, this time. Rather than take others inventory, I opted to take my own, but not beat myself up in the process. This addiction is selfish, and at times, many times, very negative. I couldn't even begin to imagine my life without placing a bet, and I was resentful and angry and almost hopeless, add that to the negative comments, and well, I just about turned away. But, I held onto the core belief that I wanted to get better, and now when I read the negative comments, I actually get something from them. As for the support, if you were to post something like "I need support" I would venture to guess there would be people on this board that would respond, and respond with love and support. One of my many character defects was not being able to "ask for help" I was too ashamed, too proud, too embarrassed over what my addiction had done to me, personally, financially and emotionally. But, its key to my recovery. I asked for help, from anyone that would listen, and sure enough, those few hands that reached out to me, also saved me. I have no excuse to go and gamble today, unlike before, because I always had an excuse, if the day was bad, I went, if I didn't feel supported, I went, why not, nobody cared.... Well, I care. So, I will read the negative, sometimes comment, but, I will also read the negative and the positive, and try to learn something from it. If not, I do my recovery, because, I believe I am worth it, today, I believe, we are all worth it, but, in order for me to help you, I had to help myself first. Like putting an oxygen mask on the plan before I do my child. Breath, work your recovery, and if you allow anyone to deter you from that, then, I'm sorry, but quite frankly you don't want it bad enough, and I think you do. Stay true to yourself. Hang in there, and I'm glad you posted.
