Gambling Addiction & Recovery Support Group
Compulsive gambling is an urge or addiction to gamble despite harmful negative consequences or a desire to stop. A preferred term among many professionals is problem gambling, as few people described by the term experience true compulsions in the clinical sense of the word. Problem gambling often is defined by whether harm is experienced by the gambler or others rather...
You know, I was thinking about that very same subject just a week or so ago when me and my generic brand of plasticwrap had a knock down, drag out fight! I won by throwing the damn thing out. I then reached for my generic brand aluminum foil, wondering whether it was feeling feisty too and thought..."Next time, I'm going to spend the extra .75 cents to get the better stuff".
What goes through our minds? We fool ourselves into believing we are being informed consumers when it comes to buying groceries, reading the tiny labels to know how much we're paying per 100 sheets of toilet paper, buy the "most economical" because we think we're being a good CFO of our financial affairs.
Then we go to the joint, spend our hard earned dollars frivolously, get our asses burned in the process and blame the pain on that cheap TP that chaffed our asses!
Something's very, very wrong with that "stinkin' thinkin"!! The pun was not planned :) Here's my new motto...bumper stickers coming soon:
Feed the Piggybank, NOT the pig!
Hope you have a great 4tth, and keep up the terrific progress!
Regards, Tagg
yeah i did that all that with the grocery shopping, except now i buy more of them expensive things and things i wouldnt have cause i wanted that money to gamble. see i said i was getting better.
And I was accustomed to buying in bulk ... cases of soup, coffee, pasta's, etc. As of late I just buy a couple here and there so I can use the xtra $ to gamble with. Geez, how sick is that ?
Congrats on 4 weeks of g/f ... hey you are an inspiration to me, thankyou!
This is a great thread...I'm still trying to figure out the psychology of it all....
Hey camper...bulk is my middle name. Was at Sam's club today, come tomthink about it. Had to do shopping for our employee BBQ on Wed. Sure as sugar, squinting to read the price per sticker, only this time it wasn't for the purpose of saving $1.40 to stick in a stupid machine-just trying to be a responsible shareholder on behalf of my employer.
Bbird-exactly! The same thing happens to me! I truly have to Stop and ask myself "Is this a must have, should have, or be nice to have" item? I think it's beginning to work though, for I have found myself putting items down more and walking away. Balance is the key.
Now here's an idea...we could set a date, say 1year from now and plan a 1st Annual DS GA Reunion. Pick a location in the middle of our vast USA....Topeka Kansas...(yeah, this has been mulling around in my over-active pea brain of late). Each of us to open up a vacation club (I think they still have "no cash in till maturity" rules) and have one big honkin party to meet one another.
That's as far as I've got thus far.
Hope everyone has a wonderful GF week!
Im headed to Sams club today, early this morning. Well, it is early this morning, lol. Had a camper come in bout an hour ago, I helped him park and now I cant go back to sleep, grrrrrrr. My alarm goes off at 5:15am which is normal for me, and sometimes I would get ready and head the 30 minutes to the casino to get there early just to get an upfront parking spot and the machine I wanted. But -- Im not doing that today:-) ... Im goin shopping with my money, and at least I'll have something to show for it. And I'll probably start some of my Christmas shopping while Im there. So, Im up ... drinking coffee , having a smoke and might lay on the couch till the alarm goes off.
Having a DS reunion is a neat idea!! Hopefully , one day at a time I can stay away frm the casino for a year. Its early in the game for me as this is only day 3, but hey .. Im hopeful :-)
Camper -You're doing great...especially starting the day with a plan that includes positive productiveness! I admire you-a July Christmas shopper! Never was able to master that!
As for "days-in", each GF one is cause for celebration in my mind, but with guarded optimism. I am reminded that while the distance from our last bet may get longer and longer, the distance to our next bet stays the same. It truly is a one day at a time process-so congratulations to all for today we will not gamble.
Make each one count-celebrate today's conviction!
Be well and strong....Tagg20
