I was chatting with someone today who was trying to launch a campaign to sue a casino. Her friend had stolen millions from her workplace to fund her gambling, and ended up in jail. She is trying to get people to start a campaign to sue the casinos.
As much as I dislike the predatory nature of casinos, I just don't see how I can hold them responsible for my gambling problem.
I made the decision to quit going there, just like I made the decision to start going there. I already knew people who were addicted to gambling.
I went anyway.
This reminds of people wanting to sue McDonald's for them being fat...Who kidnapped them and dragged them in there and made them order a Big Mac, Fries, and a Shake (day after day)? They could have had the Chicken Salad and Yogurt Parfait....No one kidnapped me and dragged me to the casino either. I could have gone to the movies, a sports bar, or a bookstore....
I don't know if I can really recover from my addiction if I just choose to blame someone else for my choices...even if the someone else is a casino. A big part of my recovery is taking responsibility for my choices that put me in the bad place...and the choices that are taking me to a better place.

I cringe each time I see another person on the news who stole large sums of money to feed their addiction. I just thank GOD I never have gotten to that point. I have hurt plenty of other people, but not financially.
That is my optomistic side.
I am also grateful the chuch I attend does not have a bingo night!!lol
I loved that journal, eastwester...that is a classic that should be put somewhere we can all access it easily....and I agree that the blame game is a disease afflicting our society today!
My only way out of the mess I've made is to see what I did to make the mess, and do what I have to do to mend and amend the damage.
