That my be a werid subject line, but to me it could be scary or it could be something to be happy about. I am self employed so that means payday is everyday I work.
My big mess up stared with me needing to escape from pain. I did not know at the time what I was doing. I lived next door to my mom and she died 4 years ago. Me being the strong person I am I did not grieve properly, I escaped to the casino. I also had to move from my home, just to get away from the pain of not seeing her everyday. I was newly married on my 3rd time. I found the most wonderful man on the internet. (that is a whole different story, where I truelly did hit the jackpot meeting him) My husband encoraged me to go back to school and I got a degree in Substance Abuse. This makes this whole mess I got my self into even more absurd. Yupe, I got that degree and here I was addicted to gambling.
There were many series of event that kept me heading toward my depression. I could plaster a smile on my face for work, NO ONE knew what pain i was feeling. I have to say, at the casino I could sit and feel like I was apart of people, but yet did not have to talk to anyone. I really liked that I didn't have to listen to anyone. There were many times I would not speak one word to anyone for hours. It had chaged the caring person I use to be. All the while I would make excusses as to why I deserved my time to relax.
I bought a house that I would not let myself like, because I missed my mom.. Gained 30 lbs, because I was sad and broke all the time, because if I walked away from a casino I would buy people things with the money I won, that was to make me feel better. First 3 weeks in Janurary I won 3 jackpots and that is when I knew I was SICK.
Sick and in trouble. After that the loses were all I could hit. I was afraid of myself, I could not stop, regardless of what I was losing.
Two weeks ago I found this site, after I told my husband the amount of money I had lost. (Oh my gosh the look on his face made me so sad. And then he told me we would get through it together) Last night I listend to a phone call where people talked about their gambling. I Know I can not have any money so I have given all my money to my husband and today I will not fear tomorrow, because I will be totally transperant to my husband about how much money I have. At first I was mad that I could not have any money, but I know it is best for me to not be tempted.
It is better to hand over my money to the man who loves me, rather then to the casino that is killing me.

good for you realizing you have a problem, and doing something about it.
keep coming and posting. most of here have been through situations just like yours with the gambling. I finally admitted gambling had won: and it was time to do something different.
I totally relate to the prodigal son.
The worst thing is I am a giver, and now........ I have to dig my way out to return to who I was.
