GOINT TO GA FOR THE 1ST TIME WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

was told i shouldhave a sponsor and i need to know what is their role and who should that be?

Yes, a sponsor is a VERY important part of recovery. Many people will get a temporary sponosr who will help the new arrival to begin the steps of healing and acceptance. A sponsor in one you go to when you have questions. a sponsor is the person whom you work the 12 Steps with. Your sponsor ought NOT be the person who will always give you the answer you want to hear - usually it is our thinking that got us in trouble in the first place. Your sponsor NEEDS to be in recovery him/herself. Your sponsor ought to have their own sponsor.

So if you are new ask for a temporary sponsor. Let the group know what type of grambler you are; machines, cards, sports betting, ect... And they ought to find you a temporary sponsor who can relate to you on that level.

Hi quicksand.. One DAy at A time. and giving over or'making it hard to get at finances was my saving grace. NO Money =No gambling.

I attended GA for quite a few months and remained clean throughout - for some reason here we weren't offered the opportunity for a sponsor and in a way if I had been I wonder if I would have slipped. I know it is ultimately up to me but I still wonder - haven't heard at all from my group so am not too keen to go back. Still remaining GF.
You go - get a sponsor and do it right
