I found that I had to stop completely - once I became a compulsive gambler, there was no going back to "controlled" gambling for me. I got help through a local support group and individual counseling paid for by my state's lottery funds. I also found that I needed to block my access to cash to get stopped. If you look through previous posts on this site, you'll find lots of other suggestions - Qwit4Good and others have posted many helpful ideas. Gamblers Anonymous is another option. The main thing is to keep after it and find what works for you. Most of us didn't become addicted overnight, and recovery takes time, too. You're worth it!!
If you find all the measures don't work you may be faced with the fact that you have to break up with this lover that has been soooo seductive, soooo wonderful to you, and tried to kill you at the same time.
I think the questions are:
When you lose do you want to go back and get back your loses?
When you win do you want to go back and win more?
if you answer yes to both of those questions there is no winning, only traps and addiction.
Best to you and we're here, GA is available too.
