When I first stopped gambling I almost let my guilt and shame of who I had become and what I had done during my gambling days to take me back out.Once I accepted that Compulsive Gambling is a disease I was able to move froward in my recovery.
A fellow GA member once shared this at a meeting.
" We are not bad people trying to be good."
" We are sick people trying to get well."

When we refuse to forgive ourselves, we think we are being very noble for not letting ourselves off the hook. What we're really doing, however, is setting ourselves up to use again.
We're not accepting the fact that we are powerless over our addiction. It changed us into people who did not act according to our values. We did things that hurt others. If we accept our powerlessness, we are saying that addiction controlled us, and not the other way around. We did not choose this disease and, therefore, must forgive ourselves for getting a human disease called addiction. It doesn't mean our behavior was okay, it means we no longer hold a grudge against ourselves.
Today let me forgive myself.

We can't get the past back and there is no use dwelling on it ~ it's done, it's over!
We don't know what the future holds so there is no sense looking forward and worrying about it.
All we have is this moment and in this moment we only have to savor it, enjoy it, and make the most of it!
