However this taking stock is a lie , because we are basing what we think the consequences will be by what happened in the past.
We have no idea how bad our gambling can get.
We are the lucky ones. No matter how bad our stories are we are the lucky ones by being granted the wonderful gift of being GF.
There are those who have died from gambling.
I have to immediately believe that this will be the consequence if I gamble again. That I am not willing to do.
You are right when you say CG can take a human life.

As we walk this journey, the gratitude of joy fills our lives. Honesty and acceptance liberate us to be free. We work on our flaws and shortcomings everyday, one day at a time.
When we are gambling, we ignore our conscious. Addiction almost always wins over consequences ,at least in my case, because no matter how painful it was, the pain eases with time.
I believe I am a compulsive gambler, I believe I am a pathological gambler. It is a part of me and always will be. That's why I have no desire or interest in gambling, because I am powerless over this addiction and for me, my next bet is a death...
