what is your plan not to gamble? at first, I had to have a written plan every day for how I was NOT going to gamble. (sort of like a to-do list) it did help.

Stop these days every time I have the urge I run for the gym instead. Guess it did something good I now weigh.what I weighed in high school.:-) :-)

Faith - Way to go on your one week gamble free! What a great start! Going to the gym sounds like a very healthy alternative to gambling! Be sure to make plans for someone else to handle your money (as it is said here: no money=no gambling) if possible - looking/finding an accountability partner or sponsor - a therapist - and a plan for when you can't make it to the gym or if your car decides to head in the direction of the casino - meetings help too! Be sure to arm yourself with everything you can to fight this addiction!!! You are worth it!

Hi Faith, I'm glad you are here. This is the best place to be! I want you to know, recovery is possible. It takes hard work but it's worth it. Make sure you set up road blocks to access money. that is one of the most important things to do. No Money = No Gambling. Break up with all the places and ways that you gamble. If you haven't gone to GA yet, give it a try. There is a live telephone meeting on Wednesday nights too. Read as much as you can here. Spend hours at it, You won't be gambling so you will have more time. Take care of yourself and never give up! YOU CAN QUIT!! Hugs! Cher

Welcome, way to go on one week. Giving yourself something creative to do can help. Even as simple as coloring in one of your kids coloring books. photography, There are adult coloring books on the market too. But color is calming and focusing at the same time. Collages get a lot of feelings out and can be meditative, all can relieve boredom. Doing something different can actually grow new neural pathways in your brain. Exercise can help replace some of the dopamine you are withdrawing from. You can do this if you give every thing you've got. We are pulling for you.

Qwit i've tried but boredom isn't my trigger its mostly the daily stress kids, finances and my ex are usually big factors and then once I start I cant seem to stop. I was actually gambling free for 36 month but my contractor was having issue with paying us on time and my daughter college tuition was due thought I would try and dug a really big hole.
