Its funny, but that is how I look at my addiction. At one point I was totally Ms Hide the addict). It had consumed me to such a degree I felt like that was the true me. Lying to others and believing my own lies, cashing bad checks at one point, not eating or sleeping, justifying what I did in the name of my own rightness, selling my gold jewelry, thinking I was better and smarter than anyone else (a bit narcissistic), Manipulating to get what I wanted and it goes on.
By Divine intervention, I was able to crash though the thick wall of Denial and see I had 2 personalities and that I had become and was a compulsive gambler (Ms Hyde) and I had to arrest this Mental/ Spiritual illness inside me. I realized that the addict in me was not the true me and that I was not a bad/ weak person, The addict in me is very clever, insidious, powerful and baffling to be sure. It likes and survives on guilt, fear, pain, drama and all the negative happenings in life.
I now have my addict (Ms Hyde) at bay, but I know and accept the fact she will always be there waiting for the opportune moment to raise her ugly head, I live one day at a time and by sharing here and at GA meetings, and by doing and practicing the 12 steps and helping others, I keep this addiction arrested and I am now really enjoying relationships with others, being close with my family and just enjoying life and meeting life on life's terms. There is a higher power and a strong healing energy in GA and this site.
