Gambling Addiction & Recovery Support Group
Compulsive gambling is an urge or addiction to gamble despite harmful negative consequences or a desire to stop. A preferred term among many professionals is problem gambling, as few people described by the term experience true compulsions in the clinical sense of the word. Problem gambling often is defined by whether harm is experienced by the gambler or others rather...
I think you are on the right path. you have to resist the urge. it really is that simple. get busy. involve yourself in a movie. go for a walk. read a book. some people say exercise to get your mind off of gambling.
do you attend GA?
Have you read the 12 steps?
tell us what you are doing to resist gambling?
to resist gambling: I come here as often as I can.
I have been to a GA counselor, paid for by the state.
I've read and written some answers to the 12 steps.
I've researched and researched about gambling addiction, and looked for some ideas for gambling prevention.
I limit the amount of cash on me. and I have a trusted sister to pay my bills, so there is not a lot left over from my paychecks, anyway.
so, write back when you have time.
The fact you are fighting within yourself is a simple guide that gambling is not for you. It's not ok to go because there is NO "Just one time" for a compulsive gambler. Your first bet will turn to eternity bet regardless of win or loose. And that's why we are a compulsive gambler.
Steer away your urge by focusing on the last time you walked out of the casino. Focusing on all the good things you are. Focusing on why you want to quit, focusing on why did you started in the first place etc.
Stay strong and don't give up. You are worth it.
love,
victoria
no you are not on your own,
we are right here,
I have been busy lately,
but know that you can always email to anyone and they
will respond quite fast,
you are how old??
sorry,
but I must simply say you may get help from
your momma financially yet she is not helping you
to quit gambling which is costing you a whole LOT more,
in money and sanity and life and strength and just plain
old living.
Does this ever cross your mind???
I am most positive she loves you
but maybe she also has a gambling habit as well.
You can also go to GA and get a sponsor who will accept
calls at anytime night or day,
if you feel that you need this you should put it in place as well,
read the recent posts of how hard this is to quit and what
it will end up being if you do not do something now.
You say don't rely upon these things...........
well, just put yourself out there with GA and emailing on here
and then don't count on your friends or mom and get someone
who is TRYING to quit gambling and use them for your main support.
I so wish you the best and you have
read and been here long enough to use the
infor here to quit this thing and get going on living again.
God Bless you Darling and please please do use these tools
to your advantage.
