Have I had an urge to go and gamble? No, I can honestly say I haven't. Have I had a "reason" to go and gamble? HELL YES. Any reason was a reason for me, while I was in my active addiction. Lately, lots of family drama has surrounded me. I am finding myself acting differently towards the drama, then when I gambled. Before my recovery, any sign of drama, and I would grab my keys and run out the door, headed straight to a card room, where I would stay for days on end. Here's the deal though, I came right back to the drama, I felt like shit about myself and I was broke.
Now, I don't feel like shit about myself, and the drama tends to be less frequent, and when it comes up, I deal with it. I have money to pay my bills and I'm slowly getting out of the addiction debt.
My soft spot to fall was always the card room. At least for the last ten years. I'm a baby learning how to deal with my time, my emotions, etc., so, I'm giving myself a break when it comes to my emotions. Think about it. For 10 years of my life, I didn't deal with anything emotionally, and financially, I was always robbing paul to pay peter. Now, its not like that for me, so, I'm a newborn, learning how to live life, on lifes terms.
Gotta say, I like this part of my life. I have no regrets, really, I don't have any regrets. I hurt people, that I regret, but my recovery is bringing, not just myself back to the world, but it also brought my family back together, happier than ever before.
Recover is a gift, its work, and sometimes its like watching water boil, very slow in progress, but, if you allow it to take its course, and you work the recovery program that is best for you, its worth it, all day long and twice on Sunday.
Do the day my sweet warriors. Tonight, I'm going on a fishing boat off Harbor Island in San Diego, with my brother and two other friends. Something I have never done before. If I was gambling, that would certainly not be happening.

I can relate with the drama. For me betting on sports was an escape for me. Things in life might not be the best at times but I can get that dopamine release during the day but betting on sports. I have realized it's bad in many ways and I'm tying harder than ever to stop.
