hello all,
my boyfriend is a gambler and i dont know what to do, he is a lot older that me so i find it hard and im not sure what im doing. i love him a lot and it hurts me when he gambles he doesnt understand why i get so upset with him and he doesnt like it to him its just another bet to him it doesnt mean a lot, i really dont know what to do i try to tell him not to have a bet and concradulate him when he hasnt had one in ages but when he does he has a way of making me feel like im wrong.
am i doing the right thing? am i helping him? im just so confused i dont know what to do he has helped me so much and he is continuing to do. i really want to help him too i just dont know how

I just finished reading a little about you in your profile. You are very young compared to your bf, that's for sure. Why does it hurt you when he gambles? Is it because you can see it's hurting his life? You say your bf is a gambler, has he confessed to you that he's addicted to gambling? What I'm trying to say is, does he know he's a compulsive gambler and that it's causing him difficulties in his life? I'm wondering this because it's up to the individual to admit to the fact that gambling has become an addiction. You said you congratulate him when he hasn't placed a bet in ages, is that because he's trying to quit? I can understand you confusion and wanting to help him. One really, really important step you can take, is never, ever, ever give him any of your money to gamble with. I sure hope he's not asking.

Moyer gives you very good advice... never give him money to gamble with. That's like giving alcohol to an alcoholic and it will not help him. Even if he begs.
Compulsive gambling is a very destructive addiction. If he will come to this site and read some of the storys of how others have lost eveything and sometimes everyone they love, maybe he will begin to see how dangerous this is.
