I like that: robbing yourself. I certainly did, over and over again.but no more. we do have commercials here, I just tune them out. and the largest ads you've ever seen in the newspaper. all kinds of things to draw you: live bands, free food, free play, free nights at the hotel. I don't think so. I"m surprised some local churches haven't gone to war on the casinos here. think some pastors are going, too? ha ha

We have these great big signs all over that advertise them on the free way. Loose Slots and all that other baloney. It's hard to see them. The commercials not so much.

Yesterday there was a story on MN public radio about how childhood obesity may be lessened where Casino's are located. What a bunch of B.S. Makes me mad that they could even run a story like that. They gave the example that Native American's who work at or benefit from casino's now have more money to buy healthy food for their kids. What about all the seniors who don't eat healthy because they are sitting in a trance at the slot machines for hours and hours inhaling cigarette smoke!. There is a new report on the stop predatory gambling web site called "Seniors in casino land". It's 48 pages long but an easy read. Seniors are so vulnerable and they fall right into the gambling trap. What a shame!

I live in Michigan and the commercials are horrible here. Couple that with the fliers and emails, and it seems like you can't escape it. When I lived in NC I felt so at peace - nearest casino was 6 hours away. Way too far for me to make the trip. But here in MI, it seems like they are everywhere. I've looked into self exclusion but found out it goes into a police report and can show up on a background check when applying for jobs. So... Trying to take it one day at a time. So far 2 days GF , not much but it's a start.

With self-exclusion, I would assume you mean if you exclude yourself and get caught in the casino? Then it goes into a police report and yes, potential employers could pull up that you were arrested for being on the casino property. I don't think it goes into any report if you just self exclude - only if you violate that exclusion. I could be wrong.

We have radio commercials that advertise what a GREAT TIME you will have at the Casino. They also advertise promotions, free gifts blah blah blah.what they neglect to say is that the "free" gift costs some people their families, homes, savings, sanity and for a select few even their lives! They should promote the reality of the Casino as well as the dangers of them.

My local casino runs commercials as well. They have a profound effect on me. They don't make me want to gamble - they make me want to cry! I have such regret and pain over what I've done to my life. It's odd, but not gambling has been the easy part for me. rebuilding is proving to be very difficult.
