Gambling Addiction & Recovery Support Group
Compulsive gambling is an urge or addiction to gamble despite harmful negative consequences or a desire to stop. A preferred term among many professionals is problem gambling, as few people described by the term experience true compulsions in the clinical sense of the word. Problem gambling often is defined by whether harm is experienced by the gambler or others rather...

Funny thing about this thing- it's a disease that always talks to us telling us it's not a disease... When you get the urge try and remember that it is the disease telling you "it's OK, you deserve it," or "hey you can give it a little shot to take the edge off..." All lies that we need to push off.
When you get a craving- reach out- shout out, before you go out.
Come here, rant and rave- we're here to help. Call someone, whether they know about the gambling or not, just say "hey I'm having a tough day- got a few minutes to talk?" Hell, for that matter, find someone on the street and ask them- connecting to another is the best medicine.

I need the support today.
I wish I did not use it as "my fun treat" for so long. You are right Jay it's the disease telling me I can just go play a little it doesn't have to be a big deal.
I feel a little better now but still have that sort of distance from the horrors that were keeping me safely grounded and away.
It's weird.
Well done!! I am very happy that you overcame the urge. Just more proof that you can, and will, beat this!!
Congrats!
however, it is their job to greet you, and make you feel wanted, or make you feel desired. special.
but I found out the hard way: my feelings upon leaving the casino were much worse that how I felt going on. those same greeters looked at me in sympathy as I took my walk of shame out of there.
so I"m trying new ways to ease the loneliness......volunteering, having dinner with friends, going to the library, 2nd hand thrift stores, walks in the park, coming to this site, reading/writing, I"m fighting the temptation of going to the casino by whatever means necessary. so far, it's working. everyday I have to have a plan of prevention: ways I'm NOT going to go gambling today. that is how much I loved it. but I love myself more, and I'm worth saving. all of us are worth saving.
