In recovery there’s more to lose than money, if we choose to feed our addictions. Personally, I’ve experienced my worst mental pain because of gambling; up to and including a breakdown. No amount of money can bring me peace of mind. Peace of mind lives in my heart.
Today I will not gamble
Good for you to acknowledge it. And it ISN't ALL Bad News! your assets will be stable or grow, your security in life will be solid, you will have much more time to spend w/ friends and family you love, you will have time to generate and nourish your own interests and things of REAL value.
This is most likely a normal part of the mourning ,the letting go, the understanding that it is no longer an option, and we do this one day at a time. (Hate to say it , but it is like breaking up w/ an abusive lover. Remembering all the good, forgetting the awful dreadful things that REALLY happened.) And all this one day at a time.
I like this quote -- "there isn't enough money in the world for me to OD on gambling" that was me. Because I wanted to keep going , it was about the action, yet I needed higher and higher wages to get the rush. Never enough.
I want to die with this disorder, not from it. And if I acknowledge that it is in fact a disorder that is in me -- and will stay in me even as I am "clean" --- I will work to improve my life and make other weak spots stronger in order to fend off this ailment, which could kill me.
