Gambling Addiction & Recovery Support Group
Compulsive gambling is an urge or addiction to gamble despite harmful negative consequences or a desire to stop. A preferred term among many professionals is problem gambling, as few people described by the term experience true compulsions in the clinical sense of the word. Problem gambling often is defined by whether harm is experienced by the gambler or others rather...
You are most assuredly on my list of prayers! You WILL find that something, that job, that whatever you need that will keep you keep you focused on the GF journey at hand.
There are hundreds of thousands of things that you can and will do, that you can and will accomplish .....with one exception....trying to fill the void you feel right now with by feeding the PIG (casino/gambling)!
I am a very visual person. one day I read a passage out the book called Recovery, talking about trying to fill an imaginary hole" that we have in our life. it spoke about trying to fill that hole....and paralleled it to going out in the yard, discovering the hole, and trying to fill it by picking up the shovel, digging another hole to fill the first one.
There's a great sense of accomplishment believing we've filled the original hole-blisters to prove it. As we go to lay our shovel to rest...thinking "job well done " we realize that yet another hole exists in the landscape.
So, we're faced with a decision.....fill that hole by digging another?
Congratulations on making some very tough decisions....hats off for letting your shovel rest....on all fronts.
Be patient....good things will come your way....
Warm payers of good times coming your way!
Be well and stay strong!

I know for myself, starting a new job on December 1, which was 2 1/2 weeks after my last bet, there was alot going on in my mind. I too had been unemployed for over a year and my confidence in myself was at an all time low. I didn't "feel" like I deserved the job, because I didn't think very highly of myself. There has been very little training, as the person left two months before I started. Some days I feel like I am catching on, and other days it seems like I will never get it. Every day I learn something new. It is a struggle. I have always found it best to ask alot of questions if I am not getting something or understanding it. Which I have been doing. I would rather ask, than to not do it right. We do the best that we can, and if that is not good enough, then we know that is not where we belong.
I will say extra prayers that you find a job that you feel comfortable with and that you feel you can grow with. Please do not gamble, as that will not help anything, it will only make it worse. Your mind will continue to clear the longer you go without gambling.
Peace to you my friend!
I lost my job because of my bad behavior/gambling. I have been able to piece some temp work with some self employment. I am broker than I have ever been but I have gained a piece of myself back that I had lost while I was actively gambling.
My counselor said it takes 90-120 days to get serotonin and dopamine levels regulated again.
For me I had worked so long at blocking out my feelings that when I decided to start dealing with them it was a burst dam of emotions that is just now starting to ebb.
Hang in there. (((((hugs))))
Keep up the good work staying away from the casino!
