I'm 33 years old, just emptied a ROTH IRA (Thankfully, still have a chunk in a 401K). I've quite a few times but that didn't work obviously... My "drug" of choice is sports betting and it needs to stop for good this time. I think I suffer from a never satisfied syndrome... I have a great job, a great girl, a good salary and an overall pretty awesome life and I want to keep it that way.

Welcome TfishS you and I sound very similar. If you got time go back and read some of my earlier posts. I'm a long time sports bettor. The $ you lost is gone accept it. Do not chase anymore. Winning with sports in the long run is extremely rare just like any other form of gambling. The books win for a reason with the 10% juice or vig. Accept that you can't beat the book in the long run. They are in business for a reason. The allow you to do parlays, teasers and buy points because they know they have the edge. Be thankful for the great girl, job and life. You will appreciate them even more once gambling is done. You will never be satisfied and always want more. If you win a big bet you will want to top that. We are not the average bettors that will throw $5-10 on a game and so be it. Lose $20 bucks and be done for week. You probably become very consumed on it and gambling occupies your mind most of the time and you miss out on everything else. The best win will be you stopping. Your relationship will improve and will save more $. Put the $ you would've gambled into savings or retirement plan and let it grow. No reason to risk it laying 10% or more. This is a great site with awesome people. I wish you the best.

You are in the right place. I too suffered a great deal of self-sabotage, it seemed my gambling was worse the more successful I got at other things. I tried to quit on my own several times, then treatment three times. It has been a battle that has lasted over 20 years.
This time I have been abstinent for over 11 months and I never want to go back to the misery I was in when I still gambled. Therapy, hard work, a plan, a face to face support group, GA, YouTube, lots of tools, meditation and meticulous self care one day at a time got me here. I have zero retirement, I am near retirement age, I am broke, in debt but life is much better without gambling for me. I am not making my less than perfect situation worse.
