Have you thought about a career change? I understand the need for money and benefits, but have you looked into a similar field that doesn't include a casino? I'm not sure what type of work you do. If you do choose to work at the casino, could you ban yourself from those nearby to avoid temptation?

I used to live near Seattle and I found so many things to do in my spare time. (I didn't gamble at that time in my life.) I used to love hiking in the beautiful mountains, floating down the Yakama river, and roaming the waterfalls. It is so beautiful up there! It sounds like you enjoy the outdoors too. MY OH is a CG and works in and around poker machines all day. It really is one thing that he hopes to change in future but has done ONLY this since left school so it's hard. I really feel for you.

If you take the job make sure you embrace your new city and lifestyle and be sure to look after you as i know with a job change comes stress, so do look after yourself.

i wish i could just career change. but unfortunately i am a card dealer. nothing i could do for the same money right now until i get my butt in school. we work for tips. the hourly doesnt matter. and the tips and customer base is better in the city. i work for a small cardroom right now. but they make at least 2o,000 more a year than we do here. im almost thinking its worth the commute, but i would spend less time with my daughter. but i need to do something. im tired of seeing the same faces EVERYDAY. and the money just sucks. our casino limits our toke bets, you can only bet a dollar for a dealer. strange predicament i often find myself in. constantly in a casino, and trying to not gamble, however i hope people win so i get tipped so i can make my rent.

thanks all. and ive banned myself from all the local casinos on my side of the waters, the nearest casino is an hour away that i could even set foot in. in these casinos if i ban myself, i cant work there, i could ban myself after working there just from playing, but i couldnt get the job pre banned.

cannot relocate, i just moved for the 3rd time this year. the commute isnt so bad. after paying the bridge toll, and 20-30 dollars in gas a week, it would cost me 200 a month to go to work. but i would be making about 50% more than what i am making now. an average night for them is 150-300 dollars, an average night for us is about 50-100. but the time away from my daughter bugs me. it is about an hour each way. i dont mind driving. ive done the commute before, when i didnt have kids and just felt like having two jobs to keep me busy and support my gambling habit back then. geesh. if i made the money now that i did back then. i really need a change. and i would like to work there, all their employees seem very happy with the company and have been there for a long time. but its hard to just leave the job i have now.

Sounds like you can interact well with the public. I used to work for tips as a waitress. Have you thought about a coffee shop that serves breakfast or lunch? Tips are good. I used to make $80-130 a shift! Then you could take some online classes and spend more time with your daughter.

Hi Dracona. I agree with Sunnyboo. There are other jobs that pay tips. Maybe a good sounding board or feedback with a financial advisor ?. Maybe settling for less in another field but having more peace of mind and time for 'daughter which Money cannot Buy at any time. Schooling may help achieve a secure future in another field. I think , If you are good at what you are doing now , You can learn another skill in school and be Better at anything you try. I think the Gambling industry has given you Tunnel Vision.=(only job in sight) There is 'a Big World out there Waiting for YOU ..Education will open your 'Horizon --
When I quit gambling I 'went back to College to Hone my skills. Education aided me in looking beyond what was trapping me in my small world of Money is the only means of happiness. Today I work for less than I ever did ."I" found -- It is healthier to live better than bigger. I have asked myself many times '"HOW IMPORTANT IS IT '"??. And made the necessary changes in my lifestyle.
YOu can work at any job , you've already proved you can be successful .

I cannot waitress again. i dont deal well with serving people. im better at the entertainment industry of it. ive worked as a waitress, bartender, and dealer. it used to be something you could make a decent living at, now it all depends on where you are and the client flow. i do plan on going to school. its just in what. and i live across the water from seattle, so to get there it can be expensive for ferry or gas. i do enjoy the outdoors, and when i have time i ride my horse.
this is about the best job when it comes to going to school. which is why i need to stay in the industry. where else can you work where you get a 20 min break every hour, and if you are tired or need to get school work done you can go home early, with no reprocussions, whenever you want as long as you sign the early out list. i will need the flexibility to work around school and still have time with my daughter.

Dracona, I'm afraid nobody quite knows what it's like to be a complusive gambling card dealer, except for a complusive gambling card dealer. And for those of you who don't know, card dealers (poker and pit), have possibly one of the best paying- easiest jobs out there. We get 20 min. breaks every hour or hour and a half, you can almost always get off early, and you can make unlimited amounts of money each night.As far as taking the new job, I think you need to think about your daughter. What situation will benefit her? Will the cost of transportation and childcare, be worth it? You are settled where you are now, so moving is out of the question... And that area has tons of casinos, and you know you can't bar yourself from all of them-because of employment reasons, which leads back to will it be worth it?

lol i know. i been running those questions through my head. over and over. then i go to work and well, it sucks, and i think about what they can make across the water compared to what we are doing lately, the boss was crying one night, cause we were dumping, apologized to me for changing the rotation to try to get a house dealer in, because she was so worried about what the owners would say to her. i hate working in places that sweat the money like that. it makes me be afraid if i give out some money. and makes me feel guilty if i get a big tip, cause you know they dont like that. and on the other side of the water, they dont care.
