So today was a nice surprise lunch with the family.... not! It was actually a surprise intervention...crap. Not fun at all! My family basically told me that I absolutely must stop or else they will all desert me for good. They supplied me with a list of demands. The first order of business was to call a therapist. Next, I am supposed to put myself on the exclusion list, etc... etc... I know that they are all right. I get it but this is going to be a long road.................Hope everyone is well :)

You have a family that must really love you. You may not see it, but from what you wrote, they care enough to try and help you. I know its hard to see right now, but I think in time you will. Keep posting and hang in there, I promise, it gets better.

I wish my family had confronted me like that...............at least you know you will have their support in recovery.

appreciate their love, and go into recovery for yourself first, then for them.

remember whatever they are doing, it is out of love for you!

My family found out because my husband told them. they don't know the extent of the damage but only that I would go to the ca...no instead of coming home and my husband would be calling everything at 1-2 AM looking for me. My intervention was horrible. No one asked me how I felt or how they could help me.. it was very shaming and a whole lot of ultimatums. It was horrible! I know my family loved me enough to try to help me but I was in such a horrible place and was not ready to recover. That was last year in August. Since then I have spiraled out of control.. and on my own I have attempted to stop gambling...only to keep relapsing.

It takes courage to admit that you have a disease that no one understands and you want to change. Ultimately--you have to decide what is your bottom line and how much you are willing to lose to this disease. It's hard and I fight the feelings everyday, but I know it can be done.

my heart goes out to you...i know the anger...fear...frustration..isolation..despair..and shame you feel.....such a duel edge sword....a family who cares enough to invade your personal space to try and help you..to pull you out of the darkness that gambling has led you into.....and even though you know that this addiction is financially devastating and emotionally draining.....thoughts of ending the relationship with the "gambling lover" are overwhelming...i understand....you do have a choice though...take the time to write your list....what gambling has added to my life.............what gambling has taken from my life.......we are in this together...and each of us has lopsided columns....that's why we are here....

Having family support (although it may not feel like it right now) is a wonderful asset- we all need to leverage every area of support we can to battle this disease, take advantage of their help and support and push through this- you can do it!
