Was a compulsive gambler for 10 years straight. I knew I couldn't do it on my own. Our Father chose me, and now I am gamble free (coming up on one year GF). Studying God's word and meditating upon him and me having zero urge to go to the casino is not a coincidence.

My advice and something we all need to do is:

Read God's Word and focus on God.

You can be saved, but not on your own, and not with a temporary fix like GA.

Only God can save you.

It's a great thing that you have found your method of recovery with your focus on God and that is what you need to do. I do not agree with what you say that GA is a temporary fix. GA works for many people! It's a life long spiritual program for all people and it is very welcoming to everyone. The most important part about GA is the people who have made it to long term recovery are giving back by helping new people to find recovery from this horrible addiction. I am very gratefull to all the people who have helped me. Cher

I have not tried GA. I wanted to, many times but didn't show up. But I know with our God, nothing is impossible. I am on Day 30. Every single morning, I ask God to help me go through the day without gambling. When I tried taking my own life, I know God worked to bail me out. Now it is my turn to focus on His plans for me.

GA, Self Exclusion, whatever the tool is. God is working on our recovery. He never give up on us, no matter how many times we failed and turned away from him.

I have not gone to physical GA meetings but I know God has shown me the way when I complete surrendered myself.

I don't necessarily belive in GA but their 12step program is based on guidence of God's teaching. And I believe the 12steps will help not only gamblers but an ordinary person who is trying to become more well rounded person.

everyone has slightly different ways to accomplish their goals but in the end we need to do what makes us happy!

I rely heavily on my religious beliefs, too.

it does help. along with refraining from having cash, posting on here, and the steps.....

like some one said: we have different methods to reach the same goal: to stop gambling. we all have that in common......

By way of intro, I used to visit this discussion group regularly when I first quit gambling. My gambling addiction reached a peak in 2009, losing thousands a month to slot machines. I self banned and took other steps to stop gambling. Five years later I truly think I would never ever return to gambling, and it has not been helped by religion or G.A. as I don't personally subscribe to either schools of thought. At the beginning of quitting gambling I needed lots of tools to avoid the casino but after you have stayed away awhile the fog really clears, and it is easy to think rationally about how destructive a trip to the casino would be. Once I admitted I could never leave a casino until every last dollar was gone, it became easier to follow the rule that I can never enter a casino in the first place. I wanted to post this in case there are any other lurkers who might prefer to approach quitting gambling using their own strength and a lot of self-work.
