Gallstones Support Group
Gallstones (choleliths) are crystalline bodies formed within the body by accretion or concretion of normal or abnormal bile components. Risk factors for pigment stones include cirrhosis, biliary tract infections, and hereditary blood cell disorders, such as sickle cell anemia. Stones of mixed origin also occur.

I had surgery two days ago to remove my gall bladder. My pain is intense and I am nautious and am having a lot of difficulty just getting around. Have you experienced anything similar to this? I see the surgeon tomorrow to have the drain removed and am hoping that will help a bit.

For anyone worried about the pain following surgery I can tell you that I now feel 50% better having had the drain removed. I am anticipating feeling better every day! Now... if I could eat, things would be great.

Day 6 following surgery. Stomach pain completely gone. I continue to have some bloating and the incision under my breasts that the gall bladder was removed through is very swollen and bruised. The only discomfort is that hard, swollen area; feels almost like a 'stitch' and twinges painfully when I bend. I have not eaten much as I have no hunger so I can't comment on that. So far this has been pretty positive.

sandysan5743, did you have keyhole or open surgery? Keyhole is much easier, no drip, I was out of hospital the next morning becasue I had the operation the night before and it did take me a week to feel better, eat reasonably and be able to go to the toilet, but was back at work after the second week.

Keyhole. I plan on going back to work on Monday. I now only have a hard painful lump under my breasts that continues to hurt when bending over. I'm not eating much other than yogurt for breakfast and then some kind of broiled chicken for dinner. No appetite yet and fear of eating anything with fat.

sandysan5743, you'll probably have that fear for a while, slowly start introducing foods back into your diet. I have probablems with acidy foods like tomatoes and oranges, spicy foods and fatty foods, I have also gone off most caffine and drink herbal tea. All these things are better for me anyway. Changing my diet is a lot better than the pain I was going trough prior to the operation. I don't have any lumps, scars or anything so they will eventually go.

Thanks for sharing. I know I'm in a better place all around.
