Gallstones Support Group
Gallstones (choleliths) are crystalline bodies formed within the body by accretion or concretion of normal or abnormal bile components. Risk factors for pigment stones include cirrhosis, biliary tract infections, and hereditary blood cell disorders, such as sickle cell anemia. Stones of mixed origin also occur.
I could not believe a gallbladder could make a person so sick, I had intense pain in my neck that is now gone, I had resisted eating healthy for some stupid reason, I just wanted what I wanted... or thought I wanted. I finally started eating right, I made the rule if it were in a package, can, box or bottle I would not eat it. I also started reading the ingrediants on those foods, all of them had high fructose corn syrup and three or four other sugars, fat, salt, perservatives, additives, binders, wax, chemicals and stuff I wouldnt let anyone eat, I got mad at the corporate food companies for not protecting me, or not doing the best job it could to make sure I got good nutrition, so no more of my money will go to fast food or processed food or juice, or flavored water, or sodas. I started this on April 29th, I have lost 28 pounds since then and have not tried. I have not exercised (but am starting water areobics on monday) except for the walking, and that got less and less because my dog got sick.
I am losing about half a pound a day, everyday and am hoping that it will conitue or get more weight loss when I begin the water sports...
I would avoid surgery until they can see the stones with ultrasound or another test, do you have pain if you press the area under your ribcage? Do you have pain anywhere else? have you checked your blood sugars recently? The easy way is to eat fruit and vegetables, drink a ton of water, walk walk walk.... it makes a huge difference, plus they say if a person loses weight quickly it can affect the gallbladder. Now before they will do the lapband surgery or the surgery where they make the stomach very small by cutting and removing the large part,(I forgot the name of it, and I have not had either surgery) they require the patient to have their gallbladder removed to prevent problems down the road.
Please let us know how things are going,
Hugs,
Cynthia
I am underweight now but at the beginning of last year I was over weight by about 28 pounds. I lost that over the year with weight watchers and it wasn't until I started loosing the weight that the problems started. so like you said, maybe it was where I lost weight too quickly. My boyfriend is very anti weight watchers now as he is sure that is what caused all of my problems.
The issue I have now is that the doctors are convinced it is just acid reflux as nothing to do with my gallbladder showed up on my ultrasound. I am forever at the doctors and I am sure they think I am a hypercondriac (as do most people who know me) but the pain is very real. Should I go back and demand to have more tests? As the meds they have given me for acid reflux don't work.
I too am resisting eating a good diet. I have always eaten what I want, when I want so struggling. Most of the time if I avoid the fatty stuff I am ok. I ate a fair bit of chocolate this last week and nice puddings like cheesecake three nights in a row. Then Thursday night I was in so much pain that carried on into yesterday (even though I tried to avoid the fatty foods) and this morning. It makes me feel like I am really hungry too and that my stomach is turning. But the pain is mainly on my right hand side. What do you think?
Although it hurt the most when doctors pressed on my left side, it would seem that the pain I had back then was on the right a lot. I have written that I had back pain mainly on the right by my shoulder blade. The symptoms I had/have now are:
- Nausea
- Pain all over my stomach (upper and lower abdomen on both sides)
- pain in my back under the should blades. On both sides but mainly right
- excessive wind and trapped wind
- aches in arms and legs
- fatigue
- Foul smelling movement (sorry thats not nice to write about!)
- Stomach very sensitive to touch
