Things to Cheer Up About

I am feeling down. Tell me what there is in the world to cheer me up. Don't say family or friends (geographically close) because I have none. Be as nutty as you want to be.

Question: What in this world can cheer someone up?

Some answers: friends in this room; or dogs; or finishing the nightmare of tax return for the year; or buying a tomato plant. I've done all these things and I still need more cheering up.

puppies. I'm getting a new puppy on April Fool's Day. It will cheer me up to see her or him play with my 2 older dogs.

reading Jeanne's flying buttons reminded me of something that happened when I was in my 20s that I never lived down. My mother and I arrived in Europe for my brother's wedding (he married a Swiss girl) and we stayed overnight in Paris; checked into a hotel in in the middle of the night. The front desk guy kept repeating to me, don't drop the key, don't drop the key. So of course when we got on the old rickety elevator that had a few inches of space between the floor and the compartment, down the shaft went the key, never to be retrieved again. The man became apoplectic--kept yelling "why you do dat?" "why you do dat?!"

It was a running joke for years that nobody can tell me not to do something because I'll turn around and do the exact thing . . . . . . It was funny that night and it still makes me laugh.

So, funny memories.

    I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

    I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
