Name a silly old (or new) saying or cliche you hear all the time but it isn't really understandable and you have no idea where it came from.
Examples:
"A stitch in time saves 9." [I have no idea what that means.]
"High-Tail It" to do something. [Huh???]
"THEY SAY . . . . . . . ." [whoever THEY are.]

"they say.." is what someone says when they don't really know who said it--and it usually wasn't ever said by anyone who knew what they were talking about.
I hope you don't mind my adding what I know about they sayings, but maybe we could learn from each other.
"the best part of the kick is" (I know someone who says this all the time, but it never makes sense in relation to the context of what he's saying.)
"fucking A" and everyone admitted they had no idea what it really meant. lol.
