World War II saw more than 16 million Americans in the United States Armed Forces.
According to U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs statistics, only 620,000 of the 16 million Americans who served in World War II are estimated to still be alive as of 2016.
Approximately 8.7 million served in the Vietnam War, more than 5.7 million served in the Korean War and roughly 4.7 served in World War I.
