Out my back window I saw
Many things long forgotten
and others I never knew
happenings from way back then
experiences and people
I saw images of death
and I saw beaming lights of life
dim lights of the same
I did behold fragments and pieces
of my very own heart
I saw clearly a river of tears
and streams flowing from my river
I knew those teardrop streams
belonged to those I had hurt
I could see holes that I had dug
and hid in over the years
running from that back window
I so desired to do tho my legs
refused to move, so I stared
I saw shining lights and I knew
they were those so precious
who had given me love
who had given me hope
I turned away and moved on
I know someday I shall return
to see out my back window

Looking backward is so nostalgic and selective. Do we mostly remember the happy times or the sad ones, do you think?

I"ve heard it said that people generally tend to think of the past with comparative fondness, (nostalgically) however, I only have few of those kinds of memories. However, my life has not been of the average amount of happiness, either. Perhaps, that is one possible point of reference for determining the extent of one's life experiences, and the lack of them. But there are always other factors to consider, like the general state of mind (if you are depressed, your recolections would likely be affected by that, etc.), one's general temperament, (do you tend to be a pesamist?) etc. Both of which, I also tend to be.

Thank you so much for your replies. Hard to say on the happy or sad memories really of the ones I remember it includes both and many quite vividly. :)
