I'll try to keep this as brief as possible. FS came into our care when he was 3 weeks old. He was born drug affected and was still in the hospital receiving methadone treatments. He came into custody not because he was born drug affected (which seems like good enough reason to me) but because the hospital noted that dad would scream at the baby when he would cry and they weren't feeding him at all at night. He was losing weight rapidly and no one could figure out why. They would lie and say they'd fed him when all the bottles they were given were still there. Mom also is a child molester and both parents have mental health issues.

Fast forward 6 months. Our FS is now 7 months old. The caseworker has told us nothing for the last 6 months. She also hasn't told the baby's attorney anything. He wasn't even invited to the last family team meeting. He had requested a new caseworker be assigned to the case. That request was denied by DHHS. A week and a half later the caseworker comes for her monthly visit and tells us that mom passed her sex abuse risk assessment and parents passed the one drug screen they were given, which happened in March (keep in mind this kid has been in care since OCTOBER) and the baby would be going home. The caseworker says the whole case was a big misunderstanding and the baby can go home.

Neither parent has attended court ordered counseling or court ordered parenting classes. Dad hasn't attended court ordered anger management. It was court ordered they be drug screened at least once a week...they were screened ONCE in 6 months.

Should I file a complaint with the Ombudsman? Should I hire an attorney? Should I just let him go and hope they don't forget to feed him, or worse, throw him against the wall when he wakes up screaming at 3am (which he does every night)? I have nightmares about what will happen to him when I hand him over to these painfully unprepared people.
