7-Day Notice

After weeks of analysis and agency support, my husband and I finally decided to file a 7-day notice for our first placement. We weren't given a realistic picture of this 4-year-old kiddo's behaviors, developmental level, and needs pre-placement and while we tried to adapt, we have been pushed beyond our abilities.

For those of you who have been through this process before, how have you helped kids transition from your home following a 7-day notice? How have you explained the process to them? How have you helped ease their stress and fears? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi, Auntiesessie--we did a 30-day notice for our 18 year old. We had her for three years, she had a baby while she was with us, we had the baby for about 10 months, and the whole time we asked DCFS to work on the transition plan for her because she was a handful. Finally, we gave a 30 day notice. We told her it was to help DCFS make a better plan for her future. And they did transition her, finally, to a teen mother apartment. Obviously, an 18 year old is so different from a 4 year old. I think for a 4 year old, sometimes the "less is more" approach is good, but it depends on the 4 year old and the number of placements.

I notice from another post that you did file, and they are saying seven business days. Hang in there. You have come this far. I am so sorry you are going through this but you have to follow your heart.
