Foster Care Support Group
Foster care is a system by which a certified, stand-in parent(s) cares for minor children or young peoples who have been removed from their birth parents or other custodial adults by state authority. Responsibility for the young person is assumed by the relevant governmental authority and a placement with another family found.
I come from a big family and want lots of children. My husband has always wanted to foster so we thought this would be great for us. We have a little boy and I have nobeen happy with the interaction my husband has had with him. At first it was "I have not clue how to play with a baby", then "he only wants to be with you". I can count on one hand how many times a day he interacts with our little one. I do have to admit that in the last 2 year, my husband's employer has relocated him twice because he is a problem solver. So he has been working long hours at work. I know he loves our son. I just hate always having to ask him to do things with our son. When we talked about becoming foster parents, my husband just lit up at the thought of helping a child (especially due to his profession). We almost had a placement with a 7 year old and he was excited about all these things he could do with this child. I was so angry. I just can't understand why he would make all these plans when I can barely get him to spend any time with our kid. Now I am questioning whether I want to continue with being a foster mom.
He was excited about a 7 year old they are like tiny people. If they fall they cry a little get a band-aid maybe or even walk it off. They play catch, you can build forts, watch sports, get messy. All stuff he knows how to do already.
Babies however are not only boring and time consuming but they are like tiny little aliens and very fragile ones at that. (Which to a man is terrifying.) You clean them up so they can get messy again, you listen to them scream wishing they could just speak your language and tell you whats wrong. Then when they are finally quiet and possibly clean, odds are they are asleep.
Has he ever had any baby experience? Babysitting, siblings or the like? If not, odds are he just needs patience, time to learn and encouragement.
