I never realized i had a problem until i was married. I never saw my habits as bad or unmanageable before because i had no need to reflect on them. Ill start with a little history but not too much. I am currently 30, i was molested when i was 7 by my neighbors, 3 different people. When it was going on i knew that the act shouldn't be happening but they made it seem fun. As a kid i had no idea what they were doing or the impact that it would have through my adult life. As with most bothered kids i was more perceptive to innuendos and more driven. Fast forwarding to my teenage years i became depressed. The mental struggle that i had carried with me manifested itself in the form of nude pictures and Sex by the time i was 20 i had slept with 50 women. Looking back on it im not proud of the amount of people i slept with, it only brings me further into depression because i know that i used them. (i later in life called them all and apologized for doing so) Now i am with my wife. We start our Trial separation. Do i deserve it? absolutely. i don't blame her in the slightest for her decision. She cant stand to be around me for long periods or be close to me. I have slept with 2 women since we have been married and have had pictures sent and received multiple times i am done letting my past control where my future takes me. My wife and kids are my world. I have truly found my soul mate. In fact the reason for the separation is so she can get things back in check and hopefully give me one last shot. She did nothing to deserve this from me. She is the most wonderful and loving woman anyone could have and she chose me. I just want her to know that i am trying to get this thing under control and find healthy alternatives and outlets for my depression. That is when the urge to send and receive/ have Sex come into play. Normally my wife and i have the most wonderful of friendships/relationship. I just hope im not too late in realizing that i really needed help and i couldn't do it on my own. She needs her space and i am going to give it to her. Has anyone went through anything similar? How do you get past being away from your spouse? for me it hurts i constantly struggle with suicidal thoughts which she is aware of and i vent to people if its persistent.. This is the hardest thing i have ever had to do. I don't want to lose my love.

It sounds like you were having a tough time. How did you get past it?

Well initially i went to therapy on my own, and my wife went on her own. Then we went as a couple. I guess you could say that we are still not "past" it but I have understood where my problem stems from. I also learned how to open up to my wife, that I need to be on anti depressants because my depression caused a lot of issues. We had gotten back together since this post but are now separated. We are not looking at dating others but more or less rebuilding the foundation of our relationship with good memories and goals together. She is more hopefully about our future than she has been in a very long time. We are creating a "memory shelf" taking memories that we both look fondly on and keeping those around the house. We are also planning to renew our vows to promote the new us and a refreshed relationship. We were trying to build our previous relationship on a broken foundation and you can't do that. As our therapist said a term busy idiot. It's not that we weren't trying to fix us or fix what was broken but we were exhausting all of our energy in the places. I've been out of the house for 5 weeks now. She is trying to work on herself as well as us. It doesn't help and no one wants to say it or hear it but, space, time, and patience is what's needed. Doesn't make it easier but it's what has to happen.

I guess I should also add that I read a lot of books to due with sex addiction. While I was not extreme like most of their examples I did relate to the cycle you go through. Before I would get depressed and sex was something that made me feel good in that moment. Unfortunately it was a terrible cycle. I would get depressed again because the actions that I had conflicted with who I thought I was. So I the first step to me fixing my problem was understanding what triggers I had, what caused them, why it was a trigger to begin with. Then I looked at my coping mechanism. Since it conflicted with who I am as an individual I thought about healthier ways to solve the issue. Talking to my wife is one of them. Being open and honest with her. Next it was admitting to those close to me about my problem and broaden my support network and I journal a lot! I have 200 journal entries on my phone since all of this happened. If you have a similar problem therapy and understanding you and who you want to be is crucial. Be as transparent as possible. Try not to get offended if your partner feel they need affirmation
