Food Addiction Support Group
An individual suffering from a food addiction disorder frequently experiences episodes of uncontrolled eating, or binging, during which they may feel frenzied or out of control. They will eat much more quickly than is normal, and continue to eat even past the point of being uncomfortably full. Binging in this way is generally followed by a period of intense guilt feelings...
i think your last sentence answers the question, different things work for different people.
i go back and forth on this all the time.
i work hard to limit my sugar intake, i was sugar-free for over 2 months and felt very good about it. if i'm going to have something sweet, it has to be a small amount in a very controlled environment (i sound like a lab rat). however, sometimes it kicks off a myriad of thoughts and obsessions in my head. i have to be so careful. i don't/can't keep sweets in my house.
I can't and maintain my weight loss. I have tried believe me.
Now that you've said it, I realize I'm the same way: I can have treats, if they're small, and controlled. I like those tiny chocolate bars that they sell at Halloween....wish they sold them year-round. I think, if I'm gonna have a treat, I have to decide BEFORE hand how much I can have, and ONLY buy that amount.
I don't keep treats/sweets around, either....but I have a room-mate who does, and it's always around at work, too. When I see those treats, I just look at them, and, in my head, say "No, thanks." I read about it in a book on eating disorders. You're supposed to say that, and just make the decesion, so that you don't keep thinking of it, since the decesion has already been made. It helps me out.
denise - I'm the same way. I can't tell you how many times I bought a big bag or chips or cookies, and honestly believed that I'd just eat a normal amount and save the rest for later. Never happens. I like those 100 calorie bags, too.
Sunnyhere - good advice. I think it is possible for me to have small treats....like those 100 calorie bags. But for other people, maybe they can't. I hope that we all figure out what works for us!!!!
