Food Addiction Support Group
An individual suffering from a food addiction disorder frequently experiences episodes of uncontrolled eating, or binging, during which they may feel frenzied or out of control. They will eat much more quickly than is normal, and continue to eat even past the point of being uncomfortably full. Binging in this way is generally followed by a period of intense guilt feelings...
1, As long as you think you can't do it, you're going to be right - you can't. You're going to need to change that mindset before you can have any success.
2. you referred to weight gains from meds, and there's two points to address there: one, you've got an underlying medical issue, which may contribute to your mood, which will then affect your ability to get a grip on the food thing. This does NOT mean it's impossible, but it might make it harder. Nearly everyone has something going on that makes fixing this addiction a struggle. For some, it's an unsympathetic partner, or an abusive family member, or a past traumatic incident. We all have our things. The second point here is that you're carrying extra weight - not everyone with a food addiction does. For me, personally, it was essential to get my head around the problems that led to my addiction before I could tackle the weight. When i focused only on losing weight but ignored the underlying problems of loneliness and self esteem and so in, things just got worse. I've spent a hard year focused on those things, and now I'm finally able to lose the weight.
3. You refer to 'money I don't even have' which suggests that you've got financial concerns too, and that's added stress. All of your stressors contribute to your susceptibility to addictive behavior, and you'll need to work on both the financial insecurity and your stress that accompanies it.
4. You'll need to look at all the choices you make in a day, and see where you can make improvements - even small ones. You mentioned the food you ordered. Did you choose that restaurant? Were there other options? If not, did you look at the menu ahead of time and get a sense of what you might be able to order safely? Have you tried the thing where you ask for a takeout container when your food is served and immediately pack half of it up for the next day? There are strategies you can learn. They are hard. It takes time.
5. Nutella is the work of Satan. Period. Yeesh. Seriously, for me that's a dangerous substance. If it is going to cause you problems, throw it away. Or if it's unopened, donate it to someone.
6. If you're purging, you might benefit from counselling or medical advice. You might be helped by cognitive or behavioral therapy, or perhaps by anti-anxiety meds. There is no shame in asking for help - it's actually a sign of strength. Consider looking into that. Depending on what country you live it, yo might qualify for help at no cost to you.
Take care of yourself, and keep posting. You CAN do this.
