An individual suffering from a food addiction disorder frequently experiences episodes of uncontrolled eating, or binging, during which they may feel frenzied or out of control. They will eat much more quickly than is normal, and continue to eat even past the point of being uncomfortably full. Binging in this way is generally followed by a period of intense guilt feelings...
I do not go to OA, mainly because there are no meetings in my area that are wheelchair accessible and I am currently unable to drive because of the amputations. I do go to Al-anon meetings. I see a therapist. I eat a healthy diet, for me vegan. I try to limit my carbs to 45 healthy grams of carbs per meal, only whole grains. I use Truvia sweetner and only healthy fats. I try to limit salt.
Dealing with the emotions is a very important component. I use guided meditations and I write in my journal. It is working.
All 12 step programs are spiritual. It doesn't have to be God, but you do have to feed your spirit. I do have a problem with the concept of God. I associate that with an abusive father, but I am very spiritual. I truly believe we are all spiritual beings.
It does work for me, but as you can see I am desperate. They call it hitting bottom.
