Food Addiction Support Group
An individual suffering from a food addiction disorder frequently experiences episodes of uncontrolled eating, or binging, during which they may feel frenzied or out of control. They will eat much more quickly than is normal, and continue to eat even past the point of being uncomfortably full. Binging in this way is generally followed by a period of intense guilt feelings...
After about four months we did get a meeting going and now we have two in our area. I still do the phone meetings. I was taught in AA a long time ago, I couldn't wait around for recovery to come knocking on my front door.
i also liked 'potatoes not prozac' by Kathleen desMaisons,
'the mood cure' and 'the diet cure' -by the same author whom i don't remember unfortunately.
'sugar shock' by connie benett -i'll have a look into it if i desire some candy :) usually it talks me out of it.
most of these books support the idea of sugar and refined white-flour food being addictive and being the main causes of binge eating and depression issues.
the one above is wrong.
it's okay when you click on the first green 'abstinence' word in the link, and then scroll up to the beginning.
I love Geneen Roth, her book "If you eat at the refrigerator, pull up a chair" was funny and very insightful.
It can be SO difficult to trust yourself to eat moderately and stop when you're full though.
Dieting is definitely a binge trigger though. Since reading that book, I've stopped dieting, and I haven't gained any weight, even lost a couple of pounds. Every now and then I catch myself planning my next diet in my head. When that happens I just say to myself: "that sounds like it would work, if the goal is to be miserable for a couple of months...why not try to focus on incorporating more nutritious foods and healthier eating patterns for a while?" and we find a nice compromise, me and my addictive personality!
Thanks so much everyone for your input. I hope that this thread has helped someone else shed some light on their situation!
