Food Addiction Support Group
An individual suffering from a food addiction disorder frequently experiences episodes of uncontrolled eating, or binging, during which they may feel frenzied or out of control. They will eat much more quickly than is normal, and continue to eat even past the point of being uncomfortably full. Binging in this way is generally followed by a period of intense guilt feelings...
Its good that after that small indulgance you were able to stop!!!
To me, a small indulgence means a slippery slope.
Jastypes - I guess 2 cookies is probably a big deal when you've had that surgery, so I can see why you'd be upset. Plus the feeling of being out of control. I used to see a small indulgence as a slippery slop, because it always, in the past, led to a binge! But now I've decided that it doesn't have to be a slippery slope - that, for me, a small indulgence is part of being a normal eater. But that may not work for everyone! I think we all have different solutions, different things that work best for us.
It's so confusing....it seems like neither way works: if I'm too puritanical, the depervation leads to a binge. If I give myself leeway, I take it too far, and work my way up to a binge!!
Sometimes, I feel like there's no way to win! I mean, if neither way works, what the hell are we supposed to do??
I finally figured that, for me, depervation ALWAYS leads to a binge. Also, I wax anorexic in the past, so depervation is maybe not a bright idea for me. Leeway, on the other hand, has, many many times, led to a binge, but there have been times were it hasn't, I think. So I figure that leeway is the way to go, since it seems to work better then depervation - even if works only a little bit better.
Also, my goal is to be a normal eater.....and I figure normal eaters do have leeway, treats, and over-indlugences.
I've actually started paying attention to what normal eaters do! It's kinda odd that I have to watch them to see what they do, but it is a good way to learn.
June4 - hmmm, good point.
I've just realized that part of my problem is my crazy work schedule - sometimes night, sometimes days, etc., it's all over the map. Sometimes, I don't get up until 4pm, so that's when I have breakfast! I think if I had more normal hours, it would be more clear to me when I'm supposed to eat breakfast/lunch/supper, etc!
I've started counting hours.....like I figure most people eat breakfast at 8am or so, and lunch and 12pm, so four hours inbetween. If I have breakfast at 4 pm, I should have lunch at 8pm
