Food Addiction Support Group
An individual suffering from a food addiction disorder frequently experiences episodes of uncontrolled eating, or binging, during which they may feel frenzied or out of control. They will eat much more quickly than is normal, and continue to eat even past the point of being uncomfortably full. Binging in this way is generally followed by a period of intense guilt feelings...
The voice telling you to binge is not your true voice. It's not the "real you". The more times you give in to the voice, the stronger you make it. The more times you don't give in, the weaker it gets. Yes, it's uncomfortable to not give in, but that's the only way to end it. Remember that the discomfort you feel when you give in and binge is way worse than the discomfort you feel when you don't give in. The key is to not fight the urge, but to just let it be there. To calmly notice its presence but choose to not act on it. It will fade. It may not fade right away, but if you don't give it the attention it wants, it will pass.
Everything that you have talked about makes perfect sense, I agree with Kir, that voice in your head is not the real you, it is a voice you have given power to, like she said the more you listen to it the more power you give it and the stronger it gets. I know it is difficult to not listen to, sometimes you can feel like it has all the power over your life and you need to cave into it. BUT you don't you can fight it, you just need to input the proper steps. I am not a binge eating expert, I am just going to give you my advice. It is not a restrictive diet it is just advice, but I meal prep all my food and I have started to portion things out, so I get the right amount of food and it helps me to feel full, I also do snacks. Healthy snacks that way when you get hungry and you eat you don't have as much as a guilty feeling.. eating 6 small meals a day has really helped, but don't just shock your body ease into it, that way you don't feel hungry and you eat even more.. slowly get into portion sizes and help train your stomach instead of letting it train you. Plus this will help your metabolism increase and it will also help you to start feeling better about yourself. I will also tell anyone and everyone that going to therapy really helped ME. It is not for everyone and it might not help but it is just my advice talking about it to someone really helped, that is also why I started coming to this support group... I hope some part of this helped you.. I will tell you that you can do this, you can come out on top and feel good about yourself again.
