Food Addiction Support Group
An individual suffering from a food addiction disorder frequently experiences episodes of uncontrolled eating, or binging, during which they may feel frenzied or out of control. They will eat much more quickly than is normal, and continue to eat even past the point of being uncomfortably full. Binging in this way is generally followed by a period of intense guilt feelings...
One question... do you know what your trigger foods are?
I am going down the scale and really working on the addiction. I am going through a emotional healing. I am not craving the trigger foods anymore. Last year, I lost 40 pounds and let go of the binge eating and gave up a lot of sugar foods. I eat desserts only during special days like birthdays, anniversaries or holidays. I do not eat desserts on a regular basis like I used to. Sugar, candies and desserts were daily meals.
I believe we need to work on the whys we binge eat and have cravings of foods before we can keep the weight off completely.
When we heal emotionally we will then be able to keep the pounds off and eat healthy.
My goal this year is too continue to eat my healthy weight calorie intake and begin a slow exercise program. I hope to lose 52 pounds at the end of the year.
If I start an intense exercise program, I will not stick to it. I know my limitations so I am starting slow and steady and make a life change. When I have completed a 1 year committed exercise regiment, I will upgrade to intense if needed.
I have come to terms that the exercise is not to lose weight but to be healthy. After the pounds are gone, I am still going to exercise. Not to keep the weight the off but to keep my heart in good condition.
I believe when we change our thinking about eating healthy and exercise we will have normal life style food and exercise. Our mental health needs a healing just as much as our emotional health.
Let's continue to help each other on this journey of good health!
But I know that I have a bad sugar addiction and have to be so careful. An ongoing process, but since I just found this board a couple of days ago, I already feel better.
My addictions are sugar and wheat. The best thing I can do is abstain from these binge foods and I've started at OA and working the steps to recovery.
I've been up to 104kg (228lb) and down to 60kg (132lb) twice and then yo-yoed between 94kg and 60kg for the last 8 years. I've lost hundreds of kilos over the years - many times.
The way around it is to eliminate binge foods and not have them again. Ever. I've had enough sugar and wheat to last me a lifetime, I don't need to eat them again and they have don't have ANY nutritional value so I'm not doing myself any favours by eating them anyway.
I use www.myfitnesspal.com to log my food every day and I exercise 4-5 times a week, even if it's just a daily walk.
Start with small steps. Food - get that under control and stop eating things that trigger you to over eat. Have 3 meals a day, but just one plate or bowl full. That's a meal. Don't go back for seconds.
These are just suggestions, but you will need to work out what works for YOU. We are all different and deal with things differently.
Work out your trigger situations or behaviours that cause you to over-eat (stress, boredom) and find other things to do to relieve those symptoms. Food is not the answer.
Finally, just work on one day at a time. You don't need to solve all of life's problems today. Just focus on today and you will get through.
