I've imagined for many years being a whole different person. Mostly one with energy, positivity, strength, endurance, etc. At times I would well up with intense motivation and say to myself, tomorrow, I am that person. And maybe I would be that person for one day before falling into my same routine and habits.
I think, I'm hoping, I may have figured out a better way to approach change, thanks to zenhabits.net. The idea is to first understand how new habits are created, and take time to learn and train yourself to implement them. It takes time. It takes patience. I know, WHO HAS TIME FOR THIS!?
The approach is to pick ONE very simple habit that requires little to no motivation, and do it, every single day, for thirty days straight. This may be cheating, but i picked three very simple habits that require little to motivation that i incorporate into my morning routine. They are: drink a full glass of water before my feet hit the floor, clean cat's litter box, take vitamins.
I'm on day 11 and I'M BORED OUT OF MY MIND. I want so bad to just immediately start doing 30 minutes of yoga every morning. But it's important to hold yourself back. That helps keep your motivation going. I'm starting to see how it works. And it's super satisfying logging my progress every morning when I get to work (and yes it's a little embarrasing that i am proud of myself for completing such simple, normal adult tasks that should already be second nature to me, but, they're not!)
After my thirty days, I intend to introduce a new habit, and I will still keep it simple. Maybe just waking up 15-30 minutes earlier every day. Or eating a piece of fruit every day. I want to build up to a habit of 30 minutes of yoga every morning. But for someone who does not get up early, and never exercises, this is a lofty goal. That is why I think this approach will work better for me.
Any input, thoughts, or encouragemnet is welcome!

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

I saw a great video that explains how that works and I think you might like it.
