Try to have several smaller meals throughout the day. Make sure you're taking in enough protein, this will help stabalize blood sugar levels and curb cravings. As well, give it 5 minutes before giving into your late night cravings...you may find that if you don't give in right away, it will pass.
Drink plenty of water. You don't have to live on 1000 calories a day. It should be more like 1200-1900, depending on age, level of activity, etc.
Hope this helps.
Compare it to holding your breath. Eventually, you are GASPING for air to get yourself going again. Don't do the same thing with food.
I don't diet and have no issues at all when nightfall arrives. I have eaten a solid breakfast of porridge which lasts me for hours, then lunch of quinoa, veggies and chicken, and maybe some fish for dinner. Any snacks between meals are usually fruits like apples, or bananas before/after workouts.
And don't write off the water because your body definitely needs it and it also helps to keep you with a fuller feeling.
I am not sure how you have a difficulty with herbal teas as there are an infinite number of varieties - I have tried dozens of crappy ones, but in my attempts, I have found some incredibly delicious ones. I now very seldom drink coffee as water, herbal teas, and apple juice have become more enjoyable.
Activity is another thing you can try when you feel like eating. Go for a walk or do some exercises. Frankly, there are some days that I get home from the gym and it's almost too much of an effort to pour some water to drink, so I know that exercising can help with any eating urges.
As for the hot cocoas, I can't say how many because I don't drink them at all and I have removed all packaged foods from my eating altogether because of all the sugars and additives in them. I think that unsweetened fruite juices should have more than enough natural sugars to curb any late night urges; that's the reason I have apple juice in my frig - for emergencies.
no joke im eating cookies in my sleep..the other night i had to run to acme for flavored rice cakes... thats BAD!!!!!!!!!
Also, you can drink as much herbal tea as you want. Don't worry about that. The hot chocolate is probably going to add pounds.
