Fitness Goals Support Group
This community is dedicated to group support around achieving fitness goals, whatever they may be, through personal training, athletic activites, or other strenuous activity. Whether you are trying to get fit to treat a health problem, boost your mood, relieve stress, or tone your body, this group is a great place to meet other like-minded people who have similar goals.
Eat like a bodybuilder. Small meals, every 2-3 hours (so 5-6 meals a day) with a good balance of protein, carbohydrate and essential fatty acids at every meal.
If you overdo on the cardio when you're trying to lose weight your body thinks it is in stress mode and hangs on to fat, just in case. Moderate intensity will do.
Add resistance training to your routine. Building muscle helps you burn more calories. (did I say that already?) I think there is a common misconception out there about just HOW important this is for one's overall fitness. You won't turn into a Jay Cutler monster or look mannish, you don't have enough testosterone for that. For that matter, neither does Jay Cutler (supplements it artificially).
If it is in your budget, talk to a trainer to get you safely started on some routines that are designed for your level of fitness and your weight loss goals.
Another idea is to look into what kind of fitness classes your city offers... I found a great bootcamp class that is twice a week for 8 weeks in an outdoor park and I LOVED it. She was a black belt in karate and I absolutely loved the workouts we got. Usually classes through community centers or the city are not too pricey, so depending on where you live that is something to look into.
Best of luck to you! :)
What I've started doing recently is a sort of interval training. I do a 2 minute warm up walk on the treadmill at about 3.7 mph, then I jog slowly for 2 minutes, then I jog fast for 2-3 minutes (my fast is 6.5 mph -- i'm really tiny LOL), then reduce the speed to a slow jog for 2 minutes. It blasts calories.
Weight training is also good to get over a plateau. I'm always short on time, so I try to combine exercises. for example, squats with a shoulder press. Jillian Michaels has some really good 25 minute strength training circuit routines - it uses light (3-5 pound) weights and high reps. I highly recommend it!
