Guess it's not the same coming from me, is it? lol
I'm not much of a clothes-horse, I wish the Fab Five would give ME the makeover; however, I do think a little differently about how I dress myself these days. I was never very big to begin with, so people don't see my changes unless I put on a tank top, or go shirtless. Then they notice!
And every now and then I get unexpected feedback from the strangest places...
... biking through a suburban area I stopped at a traffic light and a guy yelled out of a passenger window "nice butt!" At first I thought it was just harassment, but when I turned around to look, he gave me a grin and a thumbs up.
... went to the Williams Sonoma at the local mall looking for a new kitchen gadget. There were two women at the counter that I approached for advice. They practically fell over themselves with a simultaneous "can I help you?" You have to understand that as a gay man I am generally oblivious to female eagerness, but this really took me by surprise. I'd like to think it was the tank I was wearing, though it is entirely possible they were both on commission and their enthusiasm had to do more with income than my appearance. My male ego prefers not to think that!
... but my raciest story happened a few months after I started working with my current trainer. My elderly mother had fallen and I had made the 600-mile trip to my hometown to help her with the rehab transfers (long story, and she's fine now, thank goodness). While I was there friends of mine had taken me out to a local gay bar just for the break. This very muscular man kept smiling at me - I couldn't figure out why, thought maybe he remembered me from high school or something. Turned out we were both leaving at the same time - he walked over, gave me a big kiss on the lips, a bear hug and walked out the door. When the room stopped spinning my friends were all elbowing me - do you know who that was?
Porn star.
Yes, I was cruised by a porn star. Thank you personal trainer! Of course hubby laughed when I told him the story and said "don't take it personally, they're probably all on drugs!" Sigh. Of course, you know what I'D prefer to think!
RE: the husband. Some of my family members are on the autism spectrum, so I find that when I need a particular response from them I have to give them a script. Hints are too subtle, so I have to be brutally blunt: "tomorrow's my anniversary, it would be nice if you would remember to say 'happy anniversary.'"
Your hub might not be on the spectrum, but if he listens to you, you might script something for him. "I've done all this work, lost all this weight, and I really need you to find genuine ways to notice and compliment me on what you see. I haven't reached my goal yet and your support would be very helpful."
Or something similar for your friends, as a way to involve them in encouraging your continued success. Tell them you want their help, and their observations would help. If they know what to look for, and that you WANT them to look, you might get more of that positive feedback that you need.
peace,

Confidence is a bi-product of high self esteem, and a high self esteem is a bi-product of self believe, so doing what you believe in and not caring what negative people think is what i believe is the key to your answer!
all the best
Here to support! xoxo!
1. They think they might hurt your feelings by implying you were "fat".
2. They think you might have had a major illness, again, a negative to avoid.
3. They really never did see you as overweight. I honestly don't notice this as much as some people do!
4. They would be acknowledging that they are overweight and doing anything about it.
5. People hate change, positive or negative, and avoid it.
Why aren't you saying something? I don't think there is anything wrong with you speaking up! You should be proud of yourself and share your happiness!!!
I did the same thing. I lost 30 pounds, and waited and eaited for my husband to say something until i finally said something to him about it....he said i didnt look any different...so at that point i said screw it, and then i gained it back....bad bad bad decision...dont get discouraged, just keep going...im doing the same thing now.
