I am trying to save for a house and stick to a budget as much as possible, but I have a bad habit of feeling the need to buy stuff or plan a vacation and then put it on my credit card. And now I am trying to really pay down my debt (student, CC, and car) while saving money. i just can't seem to help myself. When I was younger I was never tought anything about saving money or what it would be like when I was older, and most people in my family are bad with money. i am pretty sure I had a shopping addition to a certain degree at one point. I have gotten a lot better with money, and am financially literate now, becoming even more so. I just wish there was a way I could be more frugal. My boyfriend is so good with money and sticking to his budget, how do I be more like that? In my budgets I even leave room for some fun stuff and wiggle room but I just either go out to eat or plan stuff wayyy too much. If I want a house I really need to improve tenfold.

You started the right way - by having a goal. But no goal is ever achieved without some discipline. Being frugal isn't really that important. IMO what is more important is separating wants from needs.

The delayed satisfaction of owning a home is not what the selfish self likes. Put pictures of your goal in a prominent place in your home. Put a screensaver picture of your dream home on your phone.

If you can visualize you in the home then you will subconsciously do more ( or spend less ) to achieve your goal
