This community is for people who are struggling to meet financial obligations of any kind. Financial challenges include everything from the day-to-day challenges of making ends meet to managing credit card debt to bankruptcy. Get support from others who are going through similar obstacles on the road back to financial stability.
hey everyone, I was sitting at my post at work and thinking back on my goals in life, and realized I am a few years behind in some of them, but all my goals are coming to pass.
-I am paying on a home
-I have 4 out of 6 children that I wanted
-I have a truck finally
-I was married, now divorced
-I have a job
-I am done having children, and now my oldest is giving me a grandchild
(she said she didn't want to have any children before I was done having children, cause she didn't want any aunty/uncles younger than her child, said it would embarrass her.) I thought that was funny. I worked out in both our favors, cuz I didn't want any kids after my children started having children of there own>
I have a few more goals that I am working towards,
-becoming debt free,
-saving up for retirement
-becoming nice and settled before I retire,
-maybe I will work until my number is called.
Just sharing some of my thoughts

1. To make a Business out of Creative Writing.
2. To stand on my own two feet financially.
3. To give back what was given to me.
Dreams that became reality
- wanted to write a book, have written three and working on a fourth
- wanted a musical CD created from poems I wrote, have had it done twice... a total of 25 poems have been put to music
- wanted to become a keynote speaker at different events - have done it twice for money
- wanted to write a newspaper column, did it for two years
- wanted to become a counselor - not quite what I dreamed but I do practice NLP and Life Coaching along with Hypnotism
- wanted to be debt free - three years ago $65,000 in debt... now debt free
Dreams still in the works
- move to England
- start a full time speaking/NLP/hypnotism business
- take the Orient Express throughout Europe
- increase my funds to IRA and 401k
- retire from being an employee in 7 years
Dreams I never even dreamed about
- sobriety, years ago I could have never imagined a life without alcohol, God Willing, in three months I will celebrate 19 years sobriety
- becoming a certified master baker
- finding my Higher Power
Nightmares that taught me how to have dreams
- homeless for two years, bathing in rivers, eating out of dumpsters
- hitch-hiked America, just running from town to town
GREAT thread
I wanted a creative career and I have managed to find that, even if it isn't 100%, it is high enough to keep me satisfied.
I wanted to be my own boss, and open a business. I did that 13 years ago and have managed to keep afloat and now be overly busy, even while surrounded by those who have sadly had to close shop.
I wanted a family and I have one. I wanted more kids but I am grateful for the one I have. He is a great kid.
We own our home outright, and that wouldn't have been possible if we hadn't felt spiritually nudged to downgrade for a smaller home (interestingly this happened one month before the real estate market crashed in our area).
Being extremely frugal has really paid off. We have survived being just above the poverty level and managed to do it without lasting debt.
Goals are to walk in faith, save a lot more, invest in retirement much more, and ... win the lottery. :D
I'm heading to Bristol in 5 Weeks time for a Debtors Anonymous Workshop about tallying numbers. I have always longed for the opportunity to meet other DA members in the flesh. I pre booked a Bed and Breakfast for the two nights I'm staying. It's a Fairtrade/Organic place. Perhaps that would be a blessing for me as normally when I visit the UK I pig out.
