Ok well I've been at my job for a little over a year now. When I started the former chef informed me that I would start in the snack bar until he had openings in the kitchen. The openings have come and been filled despite my constant reminders.
Recently I have gone from 35-40 hrs a week down to 20-25 a week. My job pays good 8+ but others have gotten raises even after a few months I havent been offered one yet. The new chef told me that he's not sure I'm qualified enough to be promoted or given a raise. My problem is though should i attempt to find a new job or stay and get a second job?

So mad at Xfinity! They're trying to charge me $115 per month for the same service I had been paying $50 the last four years. I took the equipment to UPS for shipping and cancelled my subscription today! Next door was a cookie shop called Crumbl. I had heard of it before but never went in until today. I don't need one more sugar fix, but maybe it will help with my sad) grieving heart....$15...
Did you just stand there, or did you strongly ask him for a chance to show him you certainly are qualified and ask him what you could do that would most certainly show that to him?
When you have a boss that throws out a statement like that, you can't let it pass because it is likely a test in disguise. Instead you must be able to step up to the boss and immediately say in some acceptable form "YES, I CAN COOK MY ASS OFF, GIVE ME YOUR TEST AND I WILL MAKE YOU ADDICTED TO MY CREPES DISHES AND THE NEW IDEAS I HAVE."
If not, then it would be time to look for another job. They have refused you the promotions, refused you raises, and cut your hours. The next cut will probably be your job. No one stands up for you, but you. You can get a second job now and hope they would take you on for more work if the first place let you go.
The former chef saw something in you that the new one doesn't see...
Having worked in the food industry for 17 years, the people in charge (chefs, head bakers) don't need to honor the wishes of the past people in charge...
If the new chef was there when you applied for the job, chances are you may not have been hired.
I believe in fighting our battles carefully. It was Bob Marley who sung, "He who fight and run away, live to fight another day."
Me? I would start looking for another job... it is always easier to find new work while still being employed...

A suggestion: at your next interview, why not take a little foil pan filled with your best dish with you (and the recipe if that helps validate that you made it)? Is that allowed at food service interviews? If not, it should be. : ) Hope you find something that works for you!
