After my first visit to England over five years ago... I finally fulfilled a dream and got a Visa to live AND work in the UK.
My girlfriend (at the time) and I had a dream of being together and my love for England made it easy to decide where we would live. In September we became husband and wife and the end of our journey began.
It is not easy for a non-European to move to England but we did it. The main reason is we both had a fair amount of savings and both with a good history of work.
Lawyer fees, health service surcharge and the visa application has put a dent in our finances but this is what we were saving for.
Now I've got about ten days to get my possessions rounded up for the long journey across the pond. I started doing all the import paper work for that and hired a truck firm to get the stuff from here to Omaha.
Plane ticket was purchased tonight and will probably spend my last night in the States (Dec 28) at a hotel in Omaha about five miles from the airport.
Then the new year brings new journeys and new adventures and will begin looking for work. My CV/resume will be on-line and start showing to prospective employers on Monday the 21st.
Now, the next savings is for my wife and I to travel together. We've been crossing the sea many times but always by ourselves. So the plan is to spend early Christmas, in a year or two, in New York City.
When we first met, I admired her so much for the way she could save money. She was the one who gave me the inner strength to battle my debt and to stay out of debt. Together, I know New York will happen.
Short term though, I really want to spend a night in a Scottish castle and a trip to Germany...
I say these things not to brag... far from it. I say it to show the good things that can happen by staying out of debt and saving money...
I didn't need a new TV, or fancy cooking supplies, or fine furniture. I don't put much value in possessions but I really am enjoying life experiences.

I was in Paris around Halloween time for the OA region 9 Assembly. The night I arrived back to Northern Ireland was a week and a half before the Paris attacks outside the Stade de France. However I don't necessarily consider myself in any way blessed because of that, it is me trying to remain humble when venturing far. Turned out well, as I stayed with a UA friend for the five night for 200. We are never alone when we have recovery.
Also, at Charles de Gaule Airport on the way back I bought Lancme Facial Cream for a Skype Buddy in Toronto. When I arrived back at Belfast International Airport that night I just about made the Bus to Toome Bypass on the nick of them; the last Bus that night; and there was a Taxi waiting for me; the one I initially booked couldn't make it at that time and I called Praxis and they booked a Taxi for me. Plus, that night had dense fog.
Then last Month I posted the Lancme Facial Cream as a Christmas Present and it was a handling getting it Airmailed. Then my Buddy got it Yesterday; plus a Mass Card for her dead Mum; after noticing the note left from the Mailman. We got to chat yesterday; first time I spoke to her in almost 9 Months. It felt like a Birth. :)
Hope to visit you someday in England. My savings plan initially is for things for my Car; tax, insurance, plus MOT repairs. It's gonna be in the long finger.
Recovery truly does open doors for us.
How cool would it be to have a job in England even before I touch down?

The reason I am able to move is because I got out of debt and saved. And with saving, I set up goals. Short term goals were to spend the holidays in England. And from that, thi9s goal has been achieved.

I may get a UA Sponsor in a few Months time, having lined up a Bloke I know who has completed all 12 Steps with a UA Sponsor and he said he has a few things to sort out before he can Sponsor me. Hopefully I can negotiate how to work the Steps. Last UA Sponsor I had had ZERO concept of life outside New York. Perhaps If I show my potential Sponsor my spending Records he may have a clearer picture.
