I recently filed chapter 7 bankrupcy and was discharged end of October. I need to return this car that I have right now. I have to drive to work and take my son to school. I really need a car. After my dicharge auto dealers are sending me letters that I'm approved for $30,000 loan. I don't want expensive cars. All I want is $5000 loan to get used car that works, but it seems impossible to get that. Is there way around it?

I guess nobody knows answer to my question. Please wish me luck on getting a car. I wouldn't be able to take my son to school and get to my work on time if I don't have a car.

I was able to get a car at a decent rate only about 6 months after my discharge, but it was for a newer car than what you are looking for (used but just barely). You will be surprised what can be offered to you - many creditors are willing to talk to you since your bankruptcy was discharged, you can't do it again any time soon. Go to a used car dealer and tell them the truth - see if they are willing to help. You may end up paying more interest than you want to this early on, but it's also a step in rebuilding your credit if you can easily afford the payment. Good luck!

You CAN get the car. First you get working with a debt counsellor (This shows you can be responsible) Then be very open and straight with the dealer. Most people understand that you need a car to get out of the muck you are in presently. Having to get a job is a given, Good luck all round. Let us know.

Thank you for your kind advices. I received a letter from repo agent that they are taking car. That was monday night. I left message with them that I would like to arrange a day to return my car. Nobody got back to me so I called again next day to ask if I can return it on next Monday. The lady said, "I can't promise you but I will make a note of it. " At 11:30 that night, repo man knocks on my door demanding a key. I told him that I spoke to someone earlier about returning it on Monday. He said he have to pick it up tonight. I begged him to have at least one more day to look for a car, but He would not budge. Car was not at home at that time so he left. He called me 2:00 am to see if the car is back yet. My husband came back with a car around 4:00 am and we took our stuff out from the car. At 6:00 am I heard my car alarm beeping. Repo man trying to break in and take my car. I asked him again to have one more day, but he took the car anyway. I found a dealer that deals with people with bad credit and have relatively cheaper car than other dealer. I was able to get a car after all. .
