Financially Wrecked

In early December I got a letter from VA hospital saying I made too much money in 2018, so I would have to pay back all my copays from 2019, which is going to be thousands of dollars that I don't have.


A couple of weeks later my wife informed me that I had to move out because my severe depression made it impossible to take care of herself.


I am 39 years old, broke, and I had to move back in with my grandma. I am screwed.


I don't know how long it will take me to pay back these bills. 


I don't have hardly any friends and I am not in a good place.


This was all just too much to happen at once. I am wrecked.

I thank you for serving our country in our military.

That sux the VA says you have to pay them copays. Thought copays were what you paid up front on your insurance. The VA gives vets free healthcare I thought too but Im not sure because I never went military route in my life choices.

Moving in with grandmother gives you something special too, she possibly is isolated and terribly alone in life if grampa has died. She also might need a strong man to give care to her for physical challenges.
I would say this is a blip in radar but not the end of a happier life. Keep putting one foot in front of the other and seek the help you need with depression. There isnt a debtors prison in USA

Hi all. I’m new here and may end up owing the gov for 2019 “Obamacare”. Was advised they could come after a much needed tax return.
Boldeagle27. I hope you will accept my prayers that all will be just as it is intended.

I’m being forced to accept early social security, file bankruptcy and have severe depression that is not under control. I’m trying very hard to have faith it’s all going to end up okay.
I hope participation on this site will be helpful.

I know how overwhelming all that can be at once. Hopefully your grandmother is understanding and supportive. Sometimes even just one or two people who have your back is all you need. I have always lived with family in order to be able to pay bills. There’s no shame is doing what it takes to make it through.

I am sorry to hear of your troubles. Being financially strapped is such a tough feeling....I think everyone in this group is feeling the same way so you're not alone. Billwfriend said it perfectly. This might be a positive situation coming from a negative one. At 39, you're too young to be a permanent caregiver but maybe your Grandma will help you through this tough time....seems like she already is by letting you stay with her. I feel sad for you about your wife. I will pray that things improve for you both over time.
