Hubby and I had to re-evaluate our expeditures and cut where ever possible. We dropped our cable to the lowest package, saving $50/mo, dropped down to a slower speed on our internet, dropped long distance phone service ( I called and say call me right back - I get dinged a couple cents but save the monthly service charge). I quit coming home for lunch, brown bag it instead and cut our gas bill in half. Also means I decrease auto maintenance expenses.
Some other tactics I use to help save money are to make a weekly meal menu based on sale items and do once a week grocery shopping. I have found that the daily trips to the grocery store to pick up 1 or 2 items really end up meaning I pick up 6-8 items and bust my budget.
We have also eliminated gift giving for the present, even to the kids (oldest is 24, youngest 16). They take it easier when you tell them that "Dad and I have to start saving for our retirement so we won't have to come live with you in our old age."
Good luck in your endeavors. I know we can meet our goals if we have plans in place to make the goals happen.
Were also expecting another child in Oct so we have had an endless supply of co-pays with our ins. Again we just pay them with the cc as they come in to make sure our credit score stays good...but we make sure we pay it all off..we constantly live in a I'm debt free celebration every so often, then our debt gets up there again close to 2 grands worth..Lately I have been wondering if all americans live like this...We make pretty good money but every now and then we also need a break away...
We too need to start watching the little store runs that we only get a few items for but it is the gas that kills us...
Saving has been impossible for us so far but it seems like if we put our kids in private school then we find enough to pay it anyways..If we dont then we find something else to spend it on too...we always seem to be out of debt every so often but find ourselves with some debt several mos down the road..anyways just do your best..It always seems to be 2 steps foreward and one back occasionally, no matter how much we try to save and be debt free..
Car repairs are a part of life and a means to make money..Medical bills come from needing to stay healthy as well..Without either of them we would be in a world of crap unless you acustom yourself to that lifestyle to begin with.. Those ppl tend to really make alot less also..
You will be ok, yeh its a bummer but worth it..hang in there keep doing your best..
I am hoping to start paying off some old debts that we as a couple have accumulated since we were together, but I am not sure he will or not. I guess it's totally up to me and I have to never mind that he is or isn't going to help me. One of the reasons we are not together, he refused to take responsibility for his doings, and blamed it on me and my children.
on a positive note I am happy I got my car running and am able to get me and my children around to the things that we need to do. I am sorry I am rambling, but I like sharing with all of you.
